Short biography

Barbara Gisler-Haase is professor emerita for flute at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

In 1974, she was a prize winner at the “Prague Spring” competition, in 1983, she founded the ensemble “Vienna Flautists”, in 1997, she founded the Jubal Trio Vienna for flute, violoncello and piano.

Numerous concerts with both ensembles, as well as more than 15 CDs. Author of the flute school “Magic Flute” consisting of several volumes and the “Fit for the Flute” series.

International courses and juror at international competitions.

In 2009, co-inventor of a new flute according to the “wave-line” principle for children, who start learning how to play the flute. The instrument won a Red-dot Award and a Houska Recognition Prize.

Barbara Gisler-Haase was the head of the Leonard Bernstein Institute for Wind Instruments and Percussion Instruments at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna until 2015.

As of October 2015, she was appointed Vice Rector for Teaching, the Arts and the Promotion of Young Academics at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and will end this position as of Sept. 30, 2023.
