Ensemble Vienna Flautists

Founded in 1983, this unique group presents the family of flutes from the contrabass flute to the piccolo with different stylistic programme concepts.

In addition to their ensemble activities, the members of the VIENNA FLAUTISTS hold important positions in teaching, in the orchestra as well as in instrument making.

The ensemble has recorded works by Mozart, Rossini, Vivaldi, Haydn, Rahbari, Debussy, Fauré and contemporary compositions on CDs and made radio and television productions. Concert activity in America, the Far East and Europe includes major festivals such as: Schwetzinger Festspiele, Mozartfest Würzburg, Beethoventage Bonn, Klangbogen Wien, Hörgänge Wien, Budapest Spring, International Festival of India, Guanajuato Festival Mexico, European Weeks Bratislava and many more.

The emphasis on the low flutes (1 double bass, 1 sub-bass, 1 C-bass up to 3 alto flutes and the rediscovered flauto d’amore) enables the ensemble to achieve a balanced and varied sound and has already encouraged numerous composers to compose for the ensemble.

In collaboration with the internationally renowned actress JULIA STEMBERGER, programmes with recitation have been created, including “Mozart’s Women”, “French Impressions”, “Everything Has Its Time”, “To a Child”, “Cara sorella mia”, “Hear the Earth Sound” etc.
